The Times launches Cycle Safety campaign

UK newspaper, The Times, has today launched a campaign for safer cycling in UK towns and cities.

The campaign follows a serious accident involving one of their journalists and a cement truck in November last year.
Cycle safety is something we at Brigade are passionate about which is why we are constantly improving and refining products such as SIDESCAN® and BACKCHAT® to raise safety awareness for both cyclist and driver. Alongside the campaign, The Times has launched an 8-point manifesto calling for cities to be made safer for cyclists. Point 1 reads:

1. Trucks entering a city centre should be required by law to fit sensors, audible truck-turning alarms, extra mirrors and safety bars to stop cyclists being thrown under the wheels.

We couldn’t agree more with the requirement of sensors and audible warnings and would go a step further and recommend that vehicles operating in such areas also be fitted with camera monitor systems to provide all round visibility and safety.
