Refuse and Waste Management

‘Working in the waste and recycling industry is one of the most dangerous jobs in Britain’

Working in the waste and recycling industry is one of the most dangerous jobs in Britain according to the Health and Safety Executive. The report ‘Mapping Health and Safety Standards in the UK Waste Industry’ found that fatal incidents in the industry were more than ten times the national average and reportable incidents were more than four times as likely.

Incidents in the industry include;

  • People falling in or being dragged into the hopper.
  • Reversing accidents due to the rear blind spot – operators choosing to view into the hopper rather than behind the vehicle.
  • Collisions with people and objects caught in the nearside blind spot.
  • People, particularly children, being hit by the front of the vehicle due to the front blind spot.
  • Complaints with regards to noisy reversing alarms during early hours of the morning.
  • Damage to parked vehicles.
  • Collisions with other traffic.

Thermal Imaging Camera

Infrared thermal imaging camera

The Brigade Electronics Infrared Thermal Imaging Camera systems enable drivers to see objects by detecting differences in temperature, improving visibility and reaction times and therefore reducing the risk of accidents, particularly in the dark or in harsh weather conditions.

Thermal Image Camera is used in a variety of industries, we're all well aware of spies and the armed forces using them in action, but in relation to vehicle safety these cameras are used to help drivers to see things that would otherwise remain hidden.

In the winter season for example, fog is a dangerous hazard that everyone faces. Eliminate some dangers by using one of Brigades' Thermal Imaging Cameras which allows you to see clearly through the fog by identifying heat sources from other road users or pedestrians, allowing you to identify the hazards around you and arrive safely at your destination.
