Benton Bros Transport

Brigade help Benton’s to make Centenary truck a visible success.

The company

Benton Brothers Transport Ltd is a haulage firm based in Sibsey, Lincolnshire. They have a fleet of 150 vehicles with an average annual mileage of 86,000 miles. Benton Brothers makes health and safety legislation a priority, fitting the latest mobile technology such as satellite tracking, replacing vehicles every five years and employing highly efficient trained drivers.

The situation

Benton Brothers celebrated their centenary in 2008 by taking delivery of a special new truck designed to pay tribute to the founder, John William Benton.
With increasing blind spot legislation and awareness of pedestrian and cyclist safety with turning vehicles, Benton Brothers wanted to ensure the vehicle provided the very best in safety systems. However, Benton’s did not want extra bulky mirrors or monitors spoiling the look of their celebration truck.

The solution

Brigade’s BE-300C series flush mount cameras were fitted to Benton’s new XF105 DAF truck, tucked neatly into the wind deflectors on both the left and right hand sides of the truck. A VBV750 compact five inch monitor was fitted into to the dash in keeping with the stylish finish of the new truck.
The new Brigade camera/monitor system will improve safety by increasing the driver’s field of vision in areas that were previously blind spots, protecting the safety of other road users and providing the driver with extra peace of mind. The cameras will provide coverage of the blind spot area to conform to the requirements of the European Mirrors Directive (2007/38/EC) coming into UK law in March 2009.

The product

The compact, flush mount BE-300C series cameras are ideal for front, side, rear and internal view, providing all round visibility and safety and are compatible with the BE-800 and VBV series monitors. The 300C series meets the requirements of the European Mirrors Directive (2007/38/EC).
The VBV-750, TFT LCD colour monitor has a sun shield and anti glare screen providing a clear picture. The five inch flat screen monitor can fit into the dash and is ideal for all vehicle applications, especially when space is limited. The VBV-750 monitor is plug and play ready, with up to three camera inputs.

Feedback

Benton Brothers Driver, Gary Butler, said: “When sat in traffic or on a slip road, you can see cars on the monitor before you can see them in the mirrors. It gives a wider view than the kerb mirrors and is useful on roundabouts or tight corners. I do use the monitor regularly and with the mirrors as well you have the best of both worlds and that extra peace of mind.”
